Biography

Dr Lau Peng Choong is a Consultant Upper GI, Bariatric and General Surgeon. Graduated from University Sains Malaysia in 2001 and obtained his Masters of Surgery in 2009 from University of Malaya. He was as an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery in University of Malaya and had served as the Head of the Upper GI and Bariatric Surgery unit till 2019. With a keen interest in minimally invasive surgery and emerging technology, he helped pioneered the first POEM (Per Oral Endoscopic Myotomy) service for achalasia with his gastroenterology colleagues in UM. He was an early adoptor of using flourescent imaging in surgery in Malaysia and routinely uses it during laparoscopic gallbladder surgery and minimally invasive cancer surgeries.
